Perplex City

I got my Valleyschwag package the other day, and inside was a foil packet with some of these fantastic cards. Now I'm hooked!

Perplex City

I hadn't heard about Perplex City before my Valleyschwag package arrived last week. I spent the weekend solving puzzles, I purchased another 3 packets from a local-ish shop, and have 100 cards on order from eBay. I'm hooked. I'm hoping to get some of my friends interested in this too, and hopefully take part in the next live event, whenever that is.

What is it???

OK, so you're as clueless as I was early last week. Perplex City is an ARG (Alternate Reality Game). It merges the virtual and real worlds in a quest to find the Receda Cube, the most valued possession of Perplex City.

Perplex City has been watching earth for many years, but the communication has been one-way until now. They have been reading our newspapers, watching our television, listening to our radio, and using our Internet, but now they need our help and have now started to communicate with us.

In essence this is a puzzle game which involves thinking logically, laterally, and every other way possible to solve the puzzle cards which are available to buy, and to find and follow clues hidden within those cards and through the Internet and other means, to be able to find their precious Receda Cube, hidden somewhere on Earth. The reward for finding the cube is 243100,000 so it's well worth seeing if you can solve it.

How do I get started?

If you want to take part in Perplex City, register for an account on their website, then get solving cards. There are two free cards to get you started. After that you're going to have to buy some cards from somewhere.

Widsets Widget

I was reading the live event pages on their site and it mentioned that to be able to be as efficient on the events as possible you'd need to have some sort of live internet connection to stay in touch with the community and get updates. To facilitate this I have produced a Widsets widget which will allow you to stay connected with the community even when you're running about in the city after clues.

Perplexcity is great game, I've been following it for awhile. I bought some packs and then used ebay and some other sites selling individual cards to get most of the rest. Do a search for some of the individual sites they are generally a better deal than ebay. Some have websites of their own w/better pricing. One of my favorites is www.myperplex.com. They send discount codes every so often, the last one I got was PC10 for 10% off. Good luck finding the cube!
