Should I get a Nokia N800?
I'm seriously considering getting one of these to help get my home automation system really setup.
Not only does the new tablet look a lot sleeker than the old 770, but it looks a lot more powerful and capable... it's got a cool pop-out camera for video calling using Google Talk and there's going to be a Skype client for it soon, so could this be a viable alternative to an iPhone?
My plan is that when I get a house I will automate as much as possible, from my current system of music, DVD and TV systems via Salling Clicker, expanding to controlling lighting, curtains, security system and possibly even a way to get alarms from kitchen appliances (eg. "The washing has finished" kind of messages).
This would all be done either through a web browser (the easiest way to do it), Salling Clicker, if Jonas brings out an N800 version, or some dedicated software that I'd write for it.
One thing I'm cautious of is that the battery life doesn't seem to be great for long-term use. 3:30 hours use doesn't sound like a lot if I was going to be using it as a remote control, although if I had a few docks around the house it wouldn't be so bad (I don't know if they even make a dock for it though).
Another thing stopping me at the moment is the price. Would I use it enough if I couldn't do the automation stuff with it to warrant the 243269 price?
I wonder how other (more well known than myself) bloggers/journalists get review models of new devices... any ideas/tips would be gratefully received :o)
